INSURANCE TIP CONTINUED

WHAT IS COVERED WHEN RENTING A CAR?

Your policy protects you & the rental car just like it was your own. Your policy will provide the same collision, comprehensive & liability limits you have on your own car.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS:
Rental agreements can vary greatly. The following clauses may cause coverage problems. Review the contract with your rental agent and look for:

  • LOSS OF RENTS – do rental fees continue during vehicle repair?

  • REPLACEMENT COST – generally your policy pays the fair value of a damaged car. If the contract require you replace the car with a new one there could be a gap.

  • OPTION NOT TO REPAIR – can the rental company sell the damaged car & bill you?

Any other clauses that go over and above what your own car is covered for can cause coverage problems.

SHOULD YOU BUY THEIR WAIVER?
After reviewing the contract feel free to call our office and we can help you understand what is not covered by your auto policy. You can then decide if you feel the need to purchase their waiver.
